With mono and colour versions of most, it’s not hard to understand why samsung has become such a prominent name in the office, just as it has in the home.

rSo where do you start when it comes to choosing your new printer? Well, the best way is usually by defining what it is that you’re looking for and what requirements you or your business has. Below I’ve put together a brief summary of some of the major types of Samsung printers and an overview of their functions.

rColour Laser Printer

rIdeal for usage in the office, a colour laser printer such as the Samsung CLP-770ND, CLP-660ND and CLP-610ND will provide the quickest prints with full colour reproduction. These often aren’t the cheapest option, and will cost a good deal more than their mono (black and white) equivalents .Their use of toner cartridges, which prints using a powder rather than a liquid ink, may cost more initially but will save a good deal when compared with the inkjet method over time; it will also dry significantly quicker too.

rMono Laser Printer

rPrinting solely in black and white, the mono laser printer is ideal for any office or home that doesn’t require colour. They are an economical choice when compared to both multifunction devices and their colour equivalents, but have all the benefits of laser printing without the usual costs. There’s plenty of choice in the Samsung range too, ranging from the Samsung ML-1640 – which you can get for a little over 60 GBP – up to the ML-4550 – which is just shy of 500 GBP. Obviously price dictates the quality to a certain extent, but you can always be sure that you’re getting a decent standard of technology and functionality when purchasing a Samsung printer.

rLaser Multifunction Printers

rAgain, these are available in both colour and mono versions. The colour is significantly more than mono, and will obviously have more functionality.

rHowever, the major selling point of Samsung multifunction laser printers is found in the variety of applications available to you. Whilst it includes a standard laser printer, you will also benefit from an integrated fax, copier and scanner for good measure. This makes them extremely useful devices; helping offices to save space and money by channelling all of their essential functions through a single device. While the standard may not match that of each individual specialist device, there’s certainly no lack of quality in either the colour or mono varieties.

rSome examples within the Samsung range of colour multifunction printers include the Samsung CLX-6200 series and CLX-8380ND, both of which are at the top end of the budget scale. Mono equivalents include the Samsung MultiXpress SCX-6555N, for which you shouldn’t expect much change from 2,300 pounds. They may not be cheap, but they are effective. Budget versions are available though, often just incorporating a printer a scanner, which is perfect for home use.

rAs previously mentioned (and implied in the name) the inkjet printer uses a special cartridge that includes liquid. This is either a plain mono cartridge, or a combination of mono with a full colour attachment. These are the cheapest types of printer available and are particularly used in the home. Their print speed is very slow when compared with a laser equivalent’s pages per minute (ppm) and the cartridge won’t last as long as a toner. They do tend to be more compact too, which means they can sit neatly on the desk in any home or office.
